HOW COACHING WORKS

Having been a coach now for over fifteen years, it still thrills me to pieces when I work with an individual (usually a senior executive working in the corporate world) and watch their shift of awareness about themselves.

Many clients come to Tonic with specific questions:

Why am I the way I am? Am I a consequence of the world around me?

Why do I do things this way? Who am I really?

How can I actually reconnect with those I love in a heartfelt way?

I have always wanted to ........ so what’s stopping me?

And others just come without clear questions but in the hope of unlocking their potential or improving their performance. And sometimes their boss sends them!

Whatever the agenda, the client/coach relationship is key. It is a confidential partnership that totally focuses on you, the person with the questions. It is for a period of time and each meeting is for an agreed 90 minutes to 2 hours. We also offer you comfortable surroundings to be yourself in a professional but relaxed environment.

It is also important to know that you are getting the best person you possibly can to help you. At Tonic we are internationally certified, and qualified to train other coaches. Our own continuous learning is paramount, and this year we have embarked on a course of post graduate study on the latest thinking in Human Development, run by a well known school in the United States with a world class professor.

How long does coaching last for? Well for some it can be a short sojourn – I have recently completed four sessions with a client, and he is now ready to go it alone for a while. We have over- achieved all the objectives that we agreed on at the beginning. To contrast this, I also have a client across the Tasman whom I have worked with for five years, and continue to do so, as his challenges change. So flexibility is key and the timeframe is almost irrelevant.

What can you expect from your coach? First and foremost – challenge, challenge, challenge. Debate and discussion around a well thought out set of questions that are just for you and your circumstances. A well proven toolbox of interventions that assist in the outcomes. And a belief system that demonstrates the coach knows you and is genuinely interested in assisting you to greatness.

Coaching is such a vibrant and exciting way of creating a change. Come and meet us – we will knock your socks off!
